Colour Explosions in water - A Water & Oil Science Activity

Exploring with oil and water is a simple and fun activity kids enjoy.
-- Serves
Water, enough to fill large cup or bowl
2-3 tablespoons Mazola® Corn Oil
3 Droppers/pipettes
Food Colouring- different colours

Fill a large clear drinking glass, deep bowl or vase with cold water almost to the top, leaving room for a layer of oil at the surface.

Pour in just enough oil to create a thin layer, about 2-3 tablespoons, depending on how large your chosen vessel is.  Allow all of the oil to float to the surface, completely separating from the water.

Add a few drops of food colouring to the surface. Try different colours and watch as they sink and burst into little colour explosions! A very gentle swirl of the water with a skewer can add to the fun!

Once your colours have all mixed together, pour it out and try it again. This craft is quick and easy to do over and over and will amaze kids!
